Subject: Pushy Pitino

Gentlemen,

I enjoy each of your shows very often so I am addressing this email to both of you.

In the pursuit of "transparency" let me first admit that I believe Rick Pitino is the best coach the University of Kentucky has had during the 30-plus years I have been a fan. He is still among the coaching elite and is doing a spectacular job with U of L this season.

Now to my point, twice this basketball season coach Pitino has taken the opportunity to voice his opinion publicly about matters concerning University of Kentucky basketball. The first occurred when Wildcat freshman guard DeAndre Liggins refused to enter a game when coach Gillispie called on him. Coach Pitino commented that any player of his who did the same thing would never play for the University of Louisville again.

During Kentucky's miraculous win over Florida Tuesday night, Gator senior guard Walter Hodge was ejected after stepping on UK junior Perry Stevenson who was lying on the court. Coach Pitino called Hodge's transgression an "accident" and then made some disparaging remark about the Southeastern Conference not being The Big East. The relationship between Pitino and Florida coach Billy Donovan is well known and this crack makes it appear coach Pitino was not pleased that the Wildcats pulled out a victory.

You guys have been around long enough to know that most coaches avoid commenting on other programs, especially when it doesn't directly involve their team. Since coach Pitino was formerly at UK I guess he feels he is entitled to make comments like these. I disagree and believe he would not be happy if Coach Gillispie gave his opinion about Cardinal games. Imagine the atmosphere that would be created if all coaches were as outspoken as coach Pitino.

The way Lach dissects and examines sports on his show leaves me a little confused about why he hasn't mentioned this. Maybe I just missed it. Take care and keep up the good work.

TM:  I think he was referring to Duke's Christian Laettner stomping on the chest of UK's Aminu Timberlake in the famous 1992 Duke game.  It was a then-versus-now comment.  Also, Pitino is probably a bit edgier about brutality after Samardo Samuels had two teeth knocked out in a "no call" at St. John's last Sunday.

Hi Terry! Where can I listen to your "Sexy Barrock" song? I think it's great and would like to hear it some more.
Also, I'm not fat, but givin' the opportunity, I'll eat every bite of that bacon fatty melt. It looks so darn good, I'll have to make one now!

Thanks allot.   Sincerely, Tim

TM:  Is this a new trend, licensing a man's e-mail account in a woman's name?  Are you guys hiding from the Internet police, or what?  BTW, the "Bringing Sexy Barack" is for radio play only.

I am writing in regards of the downfall of UofL football. I agree that Bobby Petrino was great at recruiting talent and getting the most out of 2 & 3 star players, but most of all he knew how to play call. The University of Louisville for a span of 5 years or so was nationally known for it's quick strike offense and fast break mentality, which had us in the top 10 and knocking on the door of joining your powerhouse universities year in and year out. You know that you are making a statement when you live in this area and you see UofL on ESPN more than you see Ohio St., Penn St., Tennessee or any other school on the east coast.
I think I speak for most UofL fans when I say I did hate to see Coach Petrino go (making us a winning program) but I am glad he left (flirting with other jobs). When he left I wasn't sure how it would hurt the program, it wasn't a minor setback it was a devastating blow. The school name doesn't strike fear into anyone the way it did just 3 short years ago. Teams would come into our house disrespect us and pounce on our logo, so we would respond the way any big time program would, we would drop 50+ points on them. We are lucky to put 50 on the scoreboard in any 2 games now. I believe that we have had the talent the last 2 years to average 25-30 points and still put up an occasional 50 point game but we did not and I believe that's where the play calling hurt us. Turnovers killed our season in my opinion. I am a huge fan of Jeff Brohm and I think he will be a head coach someday but I don't think play calling is his forte at this time, he is still learning.
Now for the main reason that I am sending this to you. I think that Coach Kragthorpe is a great coach, he had proven that at Tulsa. Coaches are like players in terms of fitting, adjusting and adapting. There are a sea of red wearing die-hard Louisville fans that can see that this is not the case with Coach K, He is young and will do very well for some university, I don't think that university is located in Louisville. We need to get a coach that can restore the excitement and the intimidation factor that we know as UofL football. We need to invest in in getting a coach that can bring instant credibility. I think that Tom Jurich needs to see the situation for what it is. I Think Coach K can rebuild the battered program but I think it will take him another 5 or more years to get the talent to be consistent as well as keeping quality staff for longer than 1 season.
Jon Gruden is currently not working although he has stated that he love coaching the game so much that he would coach college even high school just to be able to coach. When you have the opportunity to get the calibur coach that Jon Gruden is you take it, we don't have to tell Tom Jurich that, when Rick Pitino was available he set his sights and got the right guy for the job, now its it's the A.D.'s job to get the program back where it belongs, and his first job is to pursue Jon Gruden with the same intensity that he did with Pitino. Jon has ties to UofL, his brother Jim played quarterback here in the 80's. Nothing worse than going from the orange bowl to no bowl, Go get Jon.

thanks
Tim

Dear Maisy,
I saw your article about Mary George in today's Scene.  I taught a little Mary George at Holy Trinity School in the late 1970s. Dark hair, cute as a button.   Can you tell me if the Mary in the article grew up in St. Matthews where she now lives according to the article?  Might she be my former first-grader??  My name is Ida Palmer-Ball.  I live in Frankfort and faithfully read the C-J. Please feel free to forward this to "your" Mary in hopes of letting me re-connect with "mine" after all these years. Thanks for any help you can be.
 Sincerely, Ida Palmer-Ball

Subject: That is Amazing!

Terry,

We don't know each other personally....yet, but because we are friends on Facebook, I have had the extraordinary opportunity to take a peek into your family photos. My mother was the oldest of nine and my step-dad is one of eleven. It is simply amazing to me that there are people in the world that do not have the understanding or fortune of the bond of a large family. Your pictures are truly sweet, your parents looked lovely, and I consider you to be a very lucky man. In short, your pictures reminded me of home...which sadly, is a place that only exists in my memories now that my grandparents are gone. My mom is now 58 and is still a hippie and I love her for that. I am calling her today to tell her how much I love and miss her.

Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great day!
Take care and GO CARDS!

Navy releases prisoner

The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior Al Qaeda terrorist after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea .
In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 US and a white 1962 Ford Fairlane automobile upon being released from custody.
The attached photo shows the terrorist on his way home just after being released by the Navy.

Subject: Ever promise her a rose garden?

Hi Terry,

Besides being a big fan of yours, I am a small business owner here in Louisville and I have a different idea for Valentines Day.  I'd like to ask for your help to get the word out for me.  I don't have any money for advertising, so I'm asking for your help please.

I install and tend rose gardens around town, in people's yards as a seasonal service.  My idea for Valentine's Day is rather than buying expensive cut roses, give a rose bush.  Roses provide constant color in the yard and in the home and will give a constant reminder of the Valentine.  I will send a Valentine Card to the recipient announcing the gift, and will plant the bush in the spring.  I plan on charging $80-$100 per bush; different varieties and other factors being considered.  Multiple bushes would bring down the price.

I would really appreciate your consideration to mention this on your show.  If you want me to call in to discuss it personally, I can do that.  Please let me know when and how.

Thank you very much for your help to this struggling small business owner with a different idea to help Valentines show their love!

Subject: Obama's stimulus package

Good question! What's the answer?

About Bam's 900 billion bailout 'stimulus'.

I heard an alternative today that I like and agree would kick the economy in the ass immediately and save about 800 billion. Part of this is what I came up with on my own.

First, anyone who buys a home in 2009 gets a 20,000 federal tax credit (as the housing industry goes, so goes the nation) if you don't owe enough to use all of the credit the balance rolls over until it is used up. (States should offer a state credit for 5,000)

Any business who hires a new hire and keeps them employed for a minimum of twelve months would get a 20,000 tax credit per hire. Again it is eleiglible for rool over.  A lot of money lost in taxes?  Let's take a look. 20,000 credit times 3,000,000 people who need a job equals 60,000,000,000 minus 900,000,000,000 stimulus is a taxpayer savings of 840,000,000,000.  But!  With 3,000,000 people back to work paying federal income taxes it wouldn't take long to re-coup the 60,000,000.

And also consider if you will that when 3,000,000 people are re-employed the will want to spend money for the things they want and that will help every place of business who will need to hire more employees who will want to spend money ....

Let's get people to buy a car...  buy a new car and get a 2,000 tax credit federal and a 500 tax credit from your state.  The taxes paid as property and license fees will make up for the states portion.

And I mean a real tax credit, not something that you have to pay back over the next few years like the 'credit' being talked about as part of the 'stimulus' package.

The car business will sell cars for a profit which is better than a bailout.  The banks will make mortgages and loans and earn interest which is better than a bailout.  The housing industry will sell homes so they can hire help to build more homes which is better than a bailout.

And then we can all pay taxes and get our federal, state and local governments out of their budget woes.

I am a believer in the KISS method of doing business.  This stimulus package is so complicated that even the legislators don't understand it, even though I doubt they would admit it.
