Cop must pay for leaking audio of distressed actress caught car humping

daniele watts detained

The Los Angeles police department’s ethics commission has declared that one of its officers must pay $10,000 for leaking audio to TMZ. The body camera audio proved that he did not disrespect a distraught African American actress who was detained after failing to offer identification.

LAPD responded to a 911 call indicating that Daniele Watts, an actress best known from the film Django Unchained, was having sex in an open car in broad daylight. Sgt. Jim Parker is heard on the audio tape calmly explaining to Ms. Watts that he needed to see her ID. She refused citing police harassment of black people.

Watts and her boyfriend were ultimately charged with disturbing the peace and forced to write letters of apology to the officers they maligned in media appearances. Watts went on TV shows explaining that she was simply standing up for people of color who, in her estimation, are unfairly detained by police. She also stated that she was defending interracial relationships, which have been legal in America for a half century.

Parker may accept a lower fine of $2,500 if he apologizes for leaking the audio to the media.
