Marathon on the down low

One woman. One dream. She ran a marathon without ever telling anyone about it.

Insane self control.

Hey, have you ever seen this picture of me crossing the finish line of my best marathon ever? Chicago. 1999. I ran a PR of 3:39:39 and then flew myself home in a Piper Apache off of Meigs Field.

Top that, Usain Bolt.

My bad. This photo is from the marathon that I ran on my 50th birthday. That’s right. I ran 26.2 miles as a 50-year-old. Now the time wasn’t as good as my Chicago PR. Did I mention that? I ran Chicago in 3:39:39, which breaks down to 8:23 per mile for 26 (point 2) miles. That’s all. Hey, before you click away. Have I ever shared this photo (below) of Kirby Adams greeting me at the 1998 Ky Derby Festival miniMarathon? It was my first mini…like 1:46 or something. But dude, my best miniMarathon was the next year when I got it down to 1:35:36. OK, enough about my running. Have I told you about my kids? They’re runners, too!
